History

The Schleswig-Holstein Commemorative Campaign Medal was founded in June 17, 1891 by Prince Albert of Prussia, who was acting as Regent of Brunswick. The medal was conferred upon the men of Brunswick who participated in the Schleswig-Holstein campaign from 1848 to 1849. Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers, doctors, civil servants and Enlisted Men were eligible to receive the award. Individuals had to apply for the medals. The medal was designed by Carl Peterson, Braunschweig.
