History

This medal was established during the reign of Catherine the Great to commemorate the storming of the Turkish fortress Izmail.

The gold cross was awarded to officers.

The obverse translates to: "For Conspicuous Bravery". The reverse translates to: "Izmail Taken 11 December 1790".
