This medal was created during the reign of Catherine the Great in commemoration of the storming of the fortress of Ochakov.
The silver medal was awarded to non-commissioned officers and enlisted men who participated in the storming of the fortress.
The obverse inscription translates to: "For Bravery Shown in the Taking of Ochakov on 6 December 1788".
