History


This medal was created during the reign of Catherine the Great in commemoration of the storming of the fortress of Ochakov.

The gold cross was awarded to officers who had not previously been conferred the Orders of Saint George or Saint Vladimir.

The obverse inscription translates to: "For Service and Bravery". The reverse inscription translates to: "Ochakov Taken on 6 December 1788".
