Medal. Pewter. 60 mm. Unsigned. On the Capture of Four Swedish Frigates near Grengam Island, 27 July 1720. Diakov 56.6, Tiregal 59, Sm--. Laureate, draped and cuirassed Peter the Great bust r. similar to that used on the coinage of 1720-1721 / Russian boats attacking the Swedish frigates. Old number ‘53’ scratched into right obverse field, some contact marks, toned About extremely fine.

History


This medal was created by Peter the Great to commemorate the taking of three Swedish warships.

The gold medal was awarded to officers.

The medal came in many different sizes.

The obverse inscription translates to: "Petrus First by Grace of God Emperor of All Russia". The reverse inscription translates to: "the Unprecedented Becomes Reality".
