Physical Description and Item Details


Award Medal for the Expedition to Khiva. 1873. Silver. 28 mm. Crowned Alexander II cipher / Date above spray, legend around. Bit 981 (R1), Chep 688, Diakov 804.1 (R2), Sm 726, Peters 152, W 103. Only 14,950 medals were issued. Rare.

History


This medal was instituted during the reign of Alexander II in commemoration of the end of the Khiva campaign. It was conferred upon officers, non-commissioned officers, enlisted personnel, militiamen, volunteers, and doctors who served in the Khiva campaign.

The obverse shows the cipher of the Czar. The reverse inscription translates to: "For the Khiva Campaign 1873".
