Award Medal for Bravery in Ochakov Waters. 1788. By T. Ivanov. Bronze. 40 mm. Bit K331 (R2), Diakov 209.2 (R2). Laureate, crowned and mantled Catherine II bust r. / Five-line legend. Minor obverse deposit spots. Silvery tone, deep chest- nut-brown.

History


This medal was established during Catherine the Great's reign to commemorate a number of naval battles near the Turkish fortress of Ochakov. It was conferred in recognition of service in naval battles between June 7th and 18th, 1788.

The obverse inscription translates to: "By the Grace of God Catherine II Empress and Autocrat of All Russias". The reverse inscription translates to: "For Bravery in Ochakov Waters June 1788".
