This medal was established during the reign of Alexander II in commemoration of the war against Turkey. The silver medal was conferred upon all ranks of the Russian Army who served during the Turkish War, at the Shipka Pass, the blockade of Bayazet, or stormed the fortress of Kars.
The reverse inscription translates to: "Not Unto Us, Not Unto Us, But In Thy Name", and is a verse taken from Psalm 115.
