Peter, armored and mantled, on horseback l., a fallen soldier below him, city in the background, signed C.Þ.P.above ex. left / Hercules in lion's skin, club on his shoulder, trophies at his feet, map of the battle in the background, initials I.G.I. above ex. right. Attractive orange-brown highlights.

History


This medal was created by Peter the Great to commemorate the Battle of Poltava.

The obverse inscription translates to: "Tsar Peter Alekseevich Sovereign of All Russia", and the reverse inscription translates to: "For the Battle of Poltava."
