Medal. Bronze. 56 mm. Unsigned. On the Capture of Two Swedish Frigates,1703. Diakov 16.6, Sm 167. Laureate, draped and armored bust of Peter r. / Two Swedish frigates surrounded by Russian ships, hand emerging from clouds above with crown. Rich glossy chestnut over a few minor contact marks. About uncirculated.

History


These medals were instituted by Peter the Great in commemoration of the capture of a Swedish galley and a brigantine.

The Gold Medal was conferred upon Officers of the Preobrazhensky and Semjonovsky Regiments. The II Class Silver Medal was conferred upon Guardsmen and Seamen of the Preobrazhensky and Semjonovsky Regiments.

The obverse features an inscription, translated as "Tsar Peter Alekseevich Sovereign of All Russia". The reverse features an inscription, translated as "The Unprecedented Becomes Reality."
