edal. Bronze. Unsigned. 61 mm. Naval Victory at Gangut, 1714. Diakov47.10A. Laureate, draped and cuirassed Peter the Great bust right / View of thenaval battle between the islands. Deep silvery birch tone on lustrous fields.

History


This medal was created by Peter the Great to commemorate the naval battle near Cape Gangut (in southwestern Finland).

The silver medal was conferred upon sailors and infantry soldiers.

The medal was issued in an undetermined number of sizes.

The obverse inscription translates to: "Tsar Peter Alekseevich Sovereign of All Russia", and the reverse translates to: "Dedication, and Fidelity. Excellence. Force."
