The Stalin Prize was established in 1941 and was awarded until 1954. In Russian, it was referred to as Государственная Сталинская премия or Gosudarstvennaya Stalinskaya Premiya.

During the Second World War, the award ceremonies were not held for the Stalin Prize. Instead, there were two ceremonies in 1946.
