History

This Order was named after Alexander Nevsky, who was the great military leader that drove the Teutonic Knights from Russia.

It was instituted as a military award during WWII. It was conferred upon brigade, regimental, divisional, company, and platoon commanders for outstanding leadership and gallantry.

On September 7, 2010, the President of the Russian Federation revised the Order. It is now awarded to civil servants in recognition of 20 years or more of meritorious service to the state.

The serial numbers range from roughly 12,100 to 48,531.

The type III star was manufactured as one piece so there are not rivets on the reverse.

The obverse Russian inscription translates to: "Alexander Nevsky".
