History

The Order of Labor Glory was established on January 18, 1974. This Order was conferred upon industry workers in the fields of transportation, construction, and other fields of production, kolkhozniks, agricultural labourers, and others not in the production spheres in recognition of selfless action. It was awarded to individuals only, and had three classes. The III Class was awarded first, then the II and finally the I Class. This Order presents one type of I Class, one type of II Class and two types of III Class.

An individual who was awarded all three classes was referred to as a "Cavalier" of the Order of Labor Glory, and were provided with special privileges. By January 1992, the I Class had been awarded to 246 individuals.

The I Class is constructed from two pieces and is composed of silver, gold plating and red enamel. The background has red enamel near the power station which is very thin and will glow under a blacklight. The hammer and sickle is positioned on the bottom half of the gear and attached by two rivets. There is a small integral ring attached at 12 o'clock for the five sided suspension. The inscription, wheat stalks, hammer and sickle, and eight pointed star are all gold-plated. The reverse is concave and has a raised, curved Monetny Dvor mint mark in the center. The left rivet is slightly lower than the right, and a small horizontal line for the serial number. The serial numbers range from roughly 1-750.

The obverse Russian inscription translates to: "Labour Glory". It also features the Russian letters for the USSR.

The I Class are the most faked Order of Labor Glory. The enamel is often pinkish, and the enamel on the top of the sunburst will glow under a blacklight.
