History


The Victory Star, 1939-1945, was instituted by Nawab Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan V Abbasi in 1945 to commemorate the Allied victory over the Axis powers. The Bronze Star is awarded to members of the Bahawalpur State Forces in recognition of overseas service provided during the Second World War.

The Obverse features an Urdu inscription which translates to "Victory" and "1939-45."

During the Second World War, Indian was controlled by the United Kingdom, with the British holding territories in India including over six hundred autonomous Princely States. Over 2.5 million soldiers were sent from India to fight against the Axis powers. Over 87,000 Indian soliders died.
