History

The Accession Medal 1939 was established by Maharaja Prata Singh Gaekwad in 1939 in commemoration of Pratap Singh's accession to the throne on February 7, 1939. In addition, other Medals may also have been authorized to commemorate Pratap Singh's 1939 accession. The Medal may also be awarded in a Gold Grade, but subsequent research is necessary to confirm.

The obverse features an inscription in Devanagari of Baroda's motto which translates to "Saddle is Home, Saddle is Throne" and the obverse features an inscription which translates to "Accession Ceremony Baroda 1939."

There are multiple versions of the Silver Medal which vary by the inscription of the institution or event associated with the celebration of the accession. Versions of the Medal are known to have been awarded to small-scale industry exhibitions, the cottage industries, and railways. There may be additional versions of the Medal to recognize institutions not featured here.
