History

The Most Noble Order of Vikramaditya/ Victory of the Order of the Sun was established by HH Farzand-i-Khas-i-Daulat-i-Inglishia Shirimant Maharaja Sir Sayaji Rao III Gaekwar Sena Khaos Khel Shamsher Bahadur in 1909. The Most Noble Order of Vikramaditya/ Victory of the Order of the Sun may have been created as a Special Class of the Order of the Sun, with the Order of the Ascending Sun and the Order of the Sun at Daybreak or Dawn conferred as the II and III Class, respectively. However, due to variations in classification across sources, the 3 Orders are classified here as separate products associated with the Order of the Sun. The Order is thought to have been made obsolete in 1941 or 1956.

The Most Noble Order of Vikramaditya/ Victory of the Order of the Sun was bestowed upon the Gaekwar, the ruling prince of Baroda, as well as royal consorts.

The Special Class Decoration is worn from a neck ribbon and features a Sanskrit inscription of the Order's motto, "SATYAMEVA JAYATE", which translates to "Truth Shall Triumph." The obverse also features an inscription which translates to "Baroda State."

The Special Class Decoration features diamonds, rubies, and emeralds.

A sash may also be authorized for wear with the Special Class Decoration, however, there is a lack of sufficient evidence to support the existence of a sash.
