History

The Police Medal for Gallantry was instituted by Nawab Sultan Jahan Begum Sahiba. Nawab Sultan Jahan Begum Sahiba ruled as the Begum of Bhopal between 1901 and 1926. During her reign, Nawab Begum brought forth progressive reforms to the fields of Bhopal's education, taxation, military, police, judiciary and jail. The Medal was awarded to members of the Bhopal Police Force in recognition of demonstrations of brave conduct.

An additional version of the Police Medal composed of Bronze may also exist, but more research is necessary to confirm.
