History

The Medal for Gallantry, also known as the Medal for Gallantry in the Field, was instigated by Maharaja Sadul Singh on December 3, 1943. The Medal was created as a military decoration to reward members of the Bikaner State Army for demonstrations of gallantry in the field. All military ranks were eligible for the award. Only 6 awards are known to have been made.

A silver rosette is authorized for wear on the Medal ribbon to denote subsequent awards of the Medal for Gallantry. There is no evidence to support multiple awards of the Medal to recipients.

The recipient's name may be engraved on the reverse, however, no named examples of the Medal have been found.
