History

The Rajyabhishek (Coronation) Medal 1942, which may also be known as the Self Dedication Meal, was conferred in commemoration of the inauguration of Maharaja Mayuradhvaja Singh in 1942. However, the Medal was not instituted until after the Second World War, on March 3, 1948. The Medal was awarded retroactively for meritorious service to the State, the Maharaja, and the Royal Household provided since February 15, 1942.

The I Class Medal is composed of cupro-nickel or gilt and was awarded to other members of the royal family who were ineligible for the Special Class, state nobles, ministers and other high ranking personnel.

The obverse features a Devanagari inscription which translates to "Jha. Ma. Sriraj Mayuradhvaja Simhaji Ma. Raz 1998 V.S. [1942 A.D.]". The reverse also features a Devanagari inscription which translates to "My Arm and Adamantine Shelter for the Lordless [helpless]" in addition to the date in English "15 FEB 1942 CORONATION DHRANAGADHRA" and the Gujarati inscription "Rajyabhisheka" and "Magh Vada 30".
