This medal was conferred upon distinguished veterans of the Russian Civil War and to all those who had served 30 years in the Army or Navy by February 23, 1948, which was Red Army Day. It was also awarded to those who received the Order of the Red Banner. Approximately 3,711,000 were awarded.
The medal is composed as brass and measures 32mm in diameter. The 12 o'clock ring was made as a part of the medal. The obverse has a depiction of Stalin and Lenin facing right, with the Roman Numerals XXX at the bottom.
The reverse Russian inscription translates to: "In Commemoration of the Thirtieth Anniversary of the Soviet Army and Navy 1918-1948".
