The Jubilee Medal for the 40th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War was established on April 12 ,1985. This medal was conferred upon servicemen and civilians for service in WWII, and those who had been awarded the medals "For Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945" and "For Victory Over Japan".
Variation I was awarded to combatants, variation II to workers and variation III to foreigners.
The reverse for variation I translates to "to a combatant 40 years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War". Variation II translates to "to a participant of the labor front 40 years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War". Variation III translates to "40 years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War".
